yea i want to know more about computers cause im planning on getting a masters degree in it but im only 12 if u know where i can learn more about computers i would rather learn the internet and control panel stuff not what goes on in the tower or whatever but that is fine too so if you have any ideas on how i can learn about computers just tell me

Ok, you gotta learn the basics.

In every computer there is a Central Processing Unit (CPU) which processes things and only understands Binary (0′s and 1′s). Also you have your Random Access Memory (RAM) which is where your CPU store the info it has processed for quick access. The special thing about RAM is that it takes almost no time to access the memory. There is also your Hard Drive Disk (HDD) which is where all your data is stored. Your CPU will request data from there process it and store it in the RAM. Most HDD is a big magnetic disk when spun it grabs the data off of it. It takes a lot more time to grab info off of it then RAM.

Now what you stated you want to know is of the Operating System (OS). Your most likely on a Microsft Windows computer. There are 3 main OS’ (Mac, Windows, Linux).

I’m thinking of starting a training firm and am trying to determine the appropriate pricing and delivery methods. This would not be ‘how to become an IT pro’ training, but training for average computer users on common tasks and applications.
Can you also please let me know your age range when you respond (ie, under 20, 20-30, 30-40, 40+)

No. I’d learn it from a friend for free icon razz Would you take computer training for $50 per hour?

I’m planning on getting a B.S. in Computer Science, but I’m thinking about becoming a police officer once I graduate. I’ve enjoyed all my CS classes to this point, but a law enforcement career has always been enticing to me. How would this degree be looked at when I apply for a job?

Side note: My school doesn’t offer a plain criminal justice degree. It is a 4 year sociology degree with maybe two criminal justice classes thrown in.

I suggest you talk to your local law enforcement. My friend was like you, but she wound up changing her major to law enforcement. She went down to the local station, said she was interested in law enforcement as a career and they let her ride around with an officer for a day, so it really helped her in her decision as to if she should go into that field or not. I know you said your school doesn’t offer a criminal justice degree, but have you considered changing schools? Computer science is great, if you love and want to do that. However, I feel that it might not be the best major for a law enforcement career.

Best of luck to you in your decision though!

My computer has went from kinda slow to super slow within a couple of hours. Now it takes hours for even a single program to run, it even takes a very long time for the desktop to appear. I don’t know why this is happening and I don’t remember doing anything that could cause it the last time I used it. It’s Windows XP AMD Processor, i would say more about it but i can’t remember it and i’m not at the computer properties screen yet.

P.s: System restore doesn’t work.

Well, if i were you i would back up my data or pass it to a massive storage usb or burn into file.<all of my data: files/passwords/ect>

Then, reinstall your system and it should go back has it was when u bought it from.

P.S WARNING! if you "system reinstall" all your data will be deleted and you will not be able to recover it.

to system restor your computer, you will need a disk that came with your computer that says system renstallation.

if you dont have a the disk, you could call the Windows factory and they should send you another one. if not google it. and they should be able to teach you how to system restore without the disk.

Hoped i helped… i don’t know that much about computers, but this procedure helped me.

i know its not a virus, its just that your compuetr is old now. Don’t worry is natural all computers slow down in between 1-3 years.

Hello,
I have done Engineering in Food Technology and working as Quality Assurance Technologist in a food industry. On other side I am doing computer repair as my part time business. Now I just want to correlate computer hardware and food technology. So I am wondering if anybody has any information what kind of career I can choose or what kind of further study I can do to get this kind of career.
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
Thanks

You could work on building that food replicator from Star Trek. If you could make it the size of modern microwaves, that would be sawweeeet!

Or check into food services that are/ should be using radiation to zap tainted produce and kill the harmful bacteria that is making people sick from e.coli, or botulism.

Hey. So, I’m 33, and I am pretty much a novice when it comes to computes. Obviously, I know the basics, like the internet and plugging things in, but I’d like to start a career in IT and/or computer maintenance. I’m interested in fixing computers, networking, and basic programming. So, is it too late to start? If not, WHERE should I start? Any books? Online resources? Thank you.

No it is never too late to learn something new.

If you want to learn something like programming or computer repair then it would be best to contact your local college to find out which courses you should take for computer programming or PC Repair

For example there are many community (2 year) colleges that offer Associates Degrees in Informaton Technology, PC Repair and etc…here are a list of community colleges in the US you can contact to get more information

http://www.utexas.edu/world/comcol/state/

You can use Google.com find find many free tutorials, ebooks, forums and etc. for learning many things

HomeandLearn has free tutorials for learning Java, Visual Basic, Web Design and etc…they also show you how to get free software to create these programs

http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk

xoax.net is a really good website to learn about C++ because it shows you how to download the FREE Microsoft’s version of their Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Visual C++ 2008 Express and use it to create C++ programs…and they also include many video tutorials for learning C++:

Mr. Messer is a computer repair expert and you can contact him at the above website to get advice on how to become a computer repair or network technician

Top-Windows-Tutorials is a good website for learning about Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7; how to protect your computer with antivirus and firewall programs; backing up your files and data, and etc.

I’m from Vancouver, B.C. and a computer science major. I am planning to transfer to SFU maybe even UBC for computer science. What are the top schools for computer science in the country and how do they rank against each other? I know Waterloo has a reputation for being highly ranked world wide… but I would also like to know how SFU or UBC ranks up there.

Information is below.
