I don’t really know about computers except for using a web browser, microsoft word and really basic things like that. I’d really like to learn, but it seems like a certain level of knowledge is assumed even for people just starting to learn programming. I’d like to fully understand computers, not just memorize some steps from the For Dummies series or something like that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

first you should learning a simple programing language like "Visual Basic 6.0" and then migrate to a powerful object oriented programing language like C++ or JAVA and in the last if you want learn the mother tongue of computer the Assembly is the final step.
