I already have an undergraduate degree in computer science and am considering going back to school to get my graduate degree in Computer Science. I am interested in working in embedded systems development and operating systems software components.

Thanks…

For specalities like embedded systems, yes. Its unlikely a BS provided state of the art skills or a broad enough foundation for long-term work in embedded systems. an MS would definitely help, and depending on the school there can be multiple courses in related areas. Obviously, look for courses called embedded X, but also look for software engineering, parallel processing, GPU programming, FPGA programming, and maybe even robotics or vison courses. For the Operating Systems would look at many of the same courses (FPGA would be too far).

If you are currently working, you should discuss some of the options with your employer. If they won’t pay for it, look for one that will. And do the courses while working getting real experience in those fields.

This is not idle talk, I paid for all the engineers in my company go get advanced degrees, including in embedded digital systems.

In the academic interest section of the common app, I don’t see computer science in it and I was wondering if computer and information science is the same meaning as computer science.
If not, then what would be the academic interest for computer science?

i think its the same.
