Okay, so I am not computer illiterate. I have built my own custom computer and installed all necessary software on it like drivers and such. I know some commands in cmd. I download Torrents by the masses. But I still want to learn about computers a lot.
So what books or other thing can I study to learn all about computers in an easy way, like Telnet, Linux, etc.?
there’s so much about computers, you actually never finish mastering these devils. basically i’m telling you that if that’s all you can do, you’re pretty much PC noob. i have learned about networking, servers, java language and what you said you do etc and i still feel like a noob. i have battled ubuntu trying to understand how it works and searching software alternatives to windows closed source software, you could probably count by the weeks me trying to teach myself.
but it’s fun and exciting because it challenges you and it’s never boring. there’s always something. and the rush is amazing when you fix system that you helped destroy.
i recommend you start with linux mint, which is like linux dumbed down. you can watch some youtube videos to see what it looks like.
or you can go into wikipedia and search for linux distributions (that’s what they’re called, not OS) and do some research.
try out some groups like in google or yahoo, they have projects they go through trying to learn as much as possible about kernels, network, programming, software and hardware.
last option, you can enroll in some prestigious university that offer computer courses.
the choice is yours, and be prepared to sweat.
nah, i’m joking, it’s actually fun.

I know of a very conservative traditional catholic school of where computers are not taught. they believe that children should not be on the internet or playing video games because they think they are addictive and not good for the soul. The school believes that kids can learn about computers later in life when they’re 16, 17, or 18 … the more appropriate ages.
what are your thoughts on this?
Yes, it it will definitely set them back. It is essential nowadays that IT skills are learnt at school. Many jobs require at least basic computer skills. In terms of health or spirituality, perhaps it would be better if computers were not used so much – but in this day and age, it is, unfortunately, important to learn about computers, etc.
